ত্রিপুরার ঘাড়ে রানের বোঝা চাপাতে চলেছে শক্তিশালী বাংলা দল। প্রথম দিনের শেষে অনেকটা এমনই ইঙ্গিত দিলেন বাংলা দলের ব্যাটারসরা। রঞ্জি ট্রফি ক্রিকেটে। অনেকটা ধীরগতিতে ব্যাট করলেও সফররত দলের ক্রিকেটাররা বুঝিয়ে দেন ত্রিপুরা জয় করার লক্ষ্য নিয়েই এসেছেন রাজ্যে। এম বি বি স্টেডিয়ামে অনুষ্ঠিত ম্যাচের প্রথম দিনে বাংলা ১ উইকেট হারিয়ে ১৭১ রান করে। মন্দালোর জন্য দিনের শেষ বেলায় ৩০ ওভার খেলা হয়নি। নতুবা এদিনই বাংলার স্কোর হয়তোবা আড়াইশো রানের গণ্ডি পার হয়ে যেত। এদিন সকালে টসে জয়লাভ করে ত্রিপুরার অধিনায়ক মনি শংকর মুড়া সিং প্রথমে সফররত দলকে ব্যাট করার আমন্ত্রণ জানান। দিনের শুরুতেই অভিজিৎ সরকার তুলে নেন কাজী জুনায়েদ সাইফিকে। ওই অবস্থায় সুদীপ কুমার ঘারামির সঙ্গে রুখে দাঁড়ান সাকির হাবিব গান্ধী। স্কোর বোর্ড সচল রাখার থেকে ওই জুটি উইকেটে টিকে থাকার উপর শুরু থেকেই জোর দেন। ফলে রান উঠে ধীরগতিতে। ত্রিপুরার অধিনায়ক তাঁর সাতজন বোলারকে ঘুরিয়ে ফিরিয়ে বল করিয়ে ওই জুটিকে আঘাত আনতে পারেননি। শেষ পর্যন্ত মন্দালোর জন্য যখন খেলা বন্ধ হয় তখন বাংলা ৬০ ওভার ব্যাট করে এক উইকেট হারিয়ে ১৭১ রান করে। সুদীপ ১৬৯ বল খেলে ৯ টি বাউন্ডারির সাহায্যে ৭০ রানে এবং সাকির ১৮৭ বল খেলে ১১ টি বাউন্ডারির সাহায্যে ৮২ রানে অপরাজিত থেকে যান। ত্রিপুরার পক্ষে অভিজিৎ সরকার ৩৮ রানে একমাত্র একটি দখল করেন। আজ সকালে ত্রিপুরার বোলাররা যদি জ্বলে উঠতে না পারেন তাহলে ত্রিপুরার ঘাড়ে রানের বোঝা চাপাবে সফররত দলের ব্যটাররা।
